Coming Home to She

Chrissy Basso Founder of The She Within

I believe that within every woman lives an authentic, radiant, unapologetically unique version of herself – the woman she was placed on this earth, in this one lifetime, to embody. At her core, she is vibrant, untamed, and deeply anchored in joy.

I call her the She Within.

For a long time, I believed my own She had slipped away, misplaced somewhere along my messy and often painful 46-year journey. I had spent most of my life doing what was expected of me: keeping the peace, performing through trauma, making everything work for everyone but myself. I wasn’t living. I was barely surviving.

I had built entire systems, habits, and routines around survival mode, until one day I realized I no longer recognized the woman staring back at me.

The Day Everything Changed

The pivot back to She came in the middle of the pandemic, when my husband of 26 years decided to walk out. It was violent. It was loud. It was terrifying. And it shook me to the very core of who I thought I was.

Looking back now, I think it was the best thing that could have ever happened to me.

Not long after the dust settled, I was moving through what should have been a normal day: music playing, windows open, my two little dogs scampering about. I was cleaning, tidying, keeping busy… until something inside me broke wide open.

I sank to my living room floor, unable to take another step. The tears came in waves, soaking through my t-shirt. Between sobs, there was only silence…the sound of my own breathing loud in my ears.

I felt invisible. Hollow. Unlovable. Unimportant. Alone.
It was as if the woman I had once been had vanished without warning, without a goodbye.

I looked around from where I sat on the hardwood floor and realized I didn’t recognize myself in anything I saw – not in the walls I’d decorated, not in the life I’d built, not even in my own body. I was living in a stranger’s house, wearing a stranger’s skin. I knew something had to change, but I didn’t know how. I didn’t have a map. I wasn’t even sure who I was anymore.

And then, in the stillness between my sobs and my silence, a whisper rose within me. Gentle, but certain:

I am trying to bless you huge — don’t screw this up.

That moment became my catalyst.

The Journey Back to She

The road back wasn’t straight, and it wasn’t easy. But it began with peeling back the layers of grief, fear, and the old stories that had convinced me I wasn’t enough.

I fell back into my faith and let myself be held by God’s presence. Slowly, I began to remember the woman I was before the world told me who to be.

Creativity became my lifeline. I journaled. I cooked and baked with love. I dressed for joy. I made vision boards and painted with messy abandon. I scribbled dreams on scraps of paper and taped them to my walls. I walked in nature and listened for God’s voice and the whispers of my own soul.

I sought out other women, some from my past, and other new sisters who entered my life at just the right time. I learned something I had never truly known: we were never meant to live as islands.

We were born for connection, for sisterhood.

And through this slow, sacred process, I re-met her. My She.

She hadn’t left me after all. I had simply buried her under so much noise that I couldn’t hear her when she called. She was not a stranger, but the truest version of me: vibrant, creative, deeply rooted in joy and faith.

She had been waiting for me all along.

Why The She Within Was Born

I created The She Within because I know I’m not the only woman who has ever felt lost in her own life. Too many of us have built lives that look beautiful on the outside but feel hollow inside. We’ve poured ourselves into careers, relationships, and responsibilities, only to one day whisper, Where did I go?

This space is my offering: a safe, sacred, judgment-free, joy-filled place for you to remember, rediscover, and reclaim the woman you were created to be.

Here, you’ll find:

  • Stories to remind you you’re not alone in your journey.
  • Creative tools like journaling prompts, art practices, and soulful rituals.
  • Encouragement rooted in faith, hope, and real-life resilience.
  • Community where your voice matters and your dreams are welcome.

An Invitation for You

If you’ve been feeling the tug, that quiet whisper that there’s more, I want you to know it’s not too late. You can come home to yourself. You can awaken the She within you.

This isn’t about becoming someone new. It’s about returning to the She you have always been.

And you don’t have to do it alone.
